Drupal theme expert needed.

Fri, 18/06/2010 - 12:49 -- quintin

Hi everyone, hope you have a heater nearby, it is freezing at the moment :-)

Thanks George for the intro session the other night, i really appreciate it.

I was wondering if there is a Drupal theme expert in the JHB area that i could chat to about getting some tutorials / lessons on getting started with a custom theme. I would ideally like to start with a theme i have build from the ground up using html and css and then incorporate the drupal tags rather than  try and convert Zen or similar to what i want it to be. Those seem to be the two options.

Any advice would be appreciated on what can be done, costs etc.

Thanks, have an excellent day.

Honestly I get to do a lot of themes. I find it is easier to just use Zen.

I don't see why you would have to start from scratch. USE SUB THEMES.

There are tons of screen casts on this subject.

Kind Regards

Using the Zen or like Tali said, using sub themes is an easy a nd quick process. I however also prefer starting from scratch.

Take one of the existing themes and learn how they incorporate the drupal specific tags, then convert your html to use the same tags at the appropriate places.

Yeah

I couldnt agree with Tali more. Its cool to
"learn" theming from scratch - but you'll probably actually spend more
time learning and less time "missioning around" with template calls etc.
if you start with a sub-theme and cut your teeth on that first.

IMHO of course :)

Hi everyone.

My problem is that I don’t know PHP, so a lot of the code
there is also a mystery
J

I also find I learn best when I have someone showing me where to
start and then I can figure it out from there.

I will see what I can find online though.

Thanks.
