Quick response support

Quick response support would be nice. When I'm having a problem with something, do not even bother to ask on the .org site as it takes a year to get an answer. I am fairly new to drupal but have built 5 drupal sites, one being an advenaced memberships advertising site. If a problem jumps up that I am unable to fix, I can not wait a year for someone to give me some advice on how to fix it. So yes I think support would be great.

Download link and good ol' Debate...

Hi All,

Two things!!!

Why is there no local download link for drupal?

I would like to stay with the local Drupal site instead of having to go to Drupal.org.

Lets start a local Drupal Vs Joomla Debate !

I have tried both and done SOME reading up but my only conclusions are the joomla website kicks @$$ where Drupal is very plain and simple (which is fine!) - but what does that say about the app itself?

I personally like drupal because of the way the interface is built - SIMPLE!

However i find myself looking through the Joomla extensions directories quite often.

Re: Download link and good ol' Debate...

2nd the Drupal vs Joomla debate! I have only used Drupal but some say Joomla is much better and more powerful?

java applets

Hi, what i'd love to see is the way to embed java applets into my drupal web.

How  am i supposed to do this?

To insert an applet, say ,in a blog post??

Thanks and excuse my ignorance.

Showcase Comments

First off, this site is a great idea, I'm sure it will grow to become a thriving community site!

My suggestion: The ability to add comments to the  drupal showcase nodes. That way we can learn about what others think of our sites (in detail, not just a rating), and hear different developers' motivations for using the techniques they used.

We've added commenting on Showcase items... Thank you for the suggestion.

Beter Theme Design

The one left block region is floating above my comment box??

So definately a beter theme design...

Adding some degradable JQuery Scripts for menus etc would also be nice.

Otherwise nice attempt it is good to see some people promoting Drupal in South Africa.

Its a common problem

I don't think its a problem with the theme per se but rather a design problem common in table-less design (A similar problem exists with table based designs too) and in this case TinyMCE.

Needless to say this has been corrected. Thanks for pointing out this bug.

Drupal for Education

Lemme just first say - Am I glad to see & have local support and interest in DRUPAL!!!

I'm busy creating an Educational website using DrupalEd with some modifications.

I'd like to see some local help/support for this kind of site - if possible.

Drupal for dummies.

Creating web sites is a hobby. Where do I start with Drupal - a step by step guide on Drupal.

Using Drupal book

I've found Drupal books to be invaluable in getting up to speed in Drupal.
This looks like a good one to start with:Using Drupal (O'Reilly) and written by the lullabot guys. More info on the book here: http://drupal.org/node/33390

Also, http://drupal.org/planet and http://learnbythedrop.com/ are good online sites to follow.

Oh, and the lullabot podcast: http://www.lullabot.com/podcast is a MUST!

Peace.

Careers

Hi,

It would be great to have a section where companies can post job vacancies specifically for Drupalers and for Drupalers to post their resumes.

Drupal Interface Translations for Local Languages & Local Uses

It would be great if there was information about translations of Drupal UI into SA languages; and, use cases in SA.

According to Drupal.org this site is the home of the Afrikaans translation. What is happening with that? Let's say I have some resources to support a translation - how can we get this going again?

Afrikaans

Hi
I'm maintaining a site that is partially translated to Afrikaans.
www.woesblog.co.za
This site belongs to woes.co.za which is for poets and writers.
They are quite willing to help with the translation of Drupal to Afrikaans.
I have started a forum topic for it some time ago. But I need to get it going again. I'm planning to get D6 translation going. If you are interested to help, join up.

Agreed

Will do!

Very disappointing that it's so poorly run. I tried to type a comment
in the RTE (TinyMCE, I think) and my text just ran over the edge and
disappeared. Sort it out, and improve the design - delimit your spaces.
Would be good to have a SA Drupal site.

Fixing TinyMCE

We have now switched to the wysiwyg module and have lowerd the number of buttons as most are unused.

Could you please test the new setup and let us now what you think? Also if you still have a problem with text disappearing could you please send us a screenshot and tell us which browser you use, so that we can correct the problem should it stil exisit.
